Oliver Foundation Teen Advisory Board

The Oliver Foundation Teen Advisory Board‘s mission is to energize kids and teens to be more health-conscious through community and school outreach projects that encourage lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits. As Teen Board members, we serve as role models to our peers through our commitment to promoting our motto:

“YEAH!”– YOUTH EXCITED ABOUT HEALTH! Our goal is to inspire and motivate our generation to live healthy, balanced life and make healthy choices. The Oliver Foundation Teen Advisory Board was established in 2004 and remains an active advisory board to the Oliver Foundation.

Sophia Chon

President

St John’s School – Houston – TX

Teen Board Member 2021 – Present

Sophia is a senior at St. John’s School. She is a member of her school dance team and two competitive dance teams. Sophia is a member of Model UN and her school’s debate team. She participates in several clubs, including Women Helping Empower Each Other (WHEE), Women of Color (WOC), and Girls Empowering Minds (GEMS). Sophia enjoys volunteering at the Nehemiah Center, Houston Food Bank, and the Mission Centers of Houston. Sophia enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, and baking in her free time.

Siddharth Satish

Teen Board Member 2021 – Present

Siddharth is a junior at Clements High School. He plays badminton, basketball and football and participates in many tournaments for them. Sid also plays the western and carnatic flute to practice classical music in both European and Indian forms. He is an avid spelling enthusiast who has represented his school at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Sid has won awards in Science Fair and Science Olympiad in middle school. He has also volunteered at many places such as the Houston Food Bank and fundraising functions/events.

Rebecca Somavarapu

Rebecca is a senior at Langham Creek High School. She is a member and officer of the Technology Student Association. She volunteers regularly through the Key Club at her school where she serves as editor. Additionally, she participates in other organizations at her school: Student Council, National Honor Society, Students Protecting Animals of America, and National English Honor Society. She received Honor Roll and a French award based on her academic performance. She enjoys art and spending time with her friends and family.

 

Shepherd Hirtz

Teen Board Member 2021 – Present

Shepherd is a senior at Memorial High School. He is an avid outdoorsman spending time bay fishing, and riding dirt bikes. He is a skilled woodworker crafting custom-made pens and bowls on a lathe. Shepherd enjoys playing the piano and is learning how to play the banjo. He is involved at his church and participates in youth group activities and communities in need. Shepherd is a Congenital Heart Defect survivor. He has a vested interest in making other kids’ lives better by leading as a mentor and advocate who understands firsthand many of the trials that pediatric heart patients endure.

 

Jenna Chuan

Jenna is a senior at Memorial High School. She is passionate about health and wellness and has served as a Health Ambassador for the Texas Department of Agriculture for Spring Branch ISD for the past three years. In addition, she is actively involved with the Red Cross Club and the Memorial Mustangs Outreach Bunch, a service organization. Her talent as a pianist earned her an outstanding award recently at the Texas All State Festival, and when available, she also plays piano for retirement communities. To stay active, she enjoys Taekwondo, and is working towards her third degree black belt. In her free time, she enjoys running, biking, and learning new languages.

 

Reagan Miller

Reagan is a senior at Memorial High School. She enjoys skiing with her family, coaching the Houston Racquet Club swim team, mentoring campers at Camp Longhorn, sailing with her friends, and listening to music. Reagan has been involved in Sweethearts, a school spirit club, and the Youth Action Council for Easter Seals Greater Houston over the past four years. Currently, she has been devoting her time as a Freshman Young Life leader and loves guiding younger teens by example. Reagan’s passion for the Oliver Foundation developed as she experienced firsthand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as a swimmer on the Memorial High School swim team. After noticing how working out and eating a colorful, balanced diet makes you happier and more productive, she wanted to help encourage that same feeling for others. 

 

Mani Maram

Mani is a senior at Westchester Academy for International Studies. He is currently the President of WAIS Interact, his school’s biggest community service club. Mani is also an officer of WAIS National Honor Society and the treasurer of WAIS Quizbowl. Currently he is restarting the WAIS Student Tutoring Club and working on starting a school newspaper. He is also a member of the advanced choir, Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honor Society, Odyssey of the Mind, and future and wants to and his school district’s Student Advisory Committee. In his free time Mani likes to volunteer across Houston with his favorite spot being the Asia Society. He aspires to become a journalist in the future to help others have a voice in areas they currently don’t.

 

Andrew Wright

Teen Board Member 2022 – Present

Andrew is a sophomore at The Kincaid School. He is a scholar athlete, serves on the Kinkaid Advisory Board and is a member of the Young Men’s Service League where he serves as the Leadership Committee Chair. Andrew currently serves as the Secretary for the West University Chapter of the Young Men’s Service League and a member of the Houston Museum of Natural Science Teen Advisory Council. He is an alumni member of the Texas Lonestar Leadership Academy and a summer graduate of the National Youth Leadership forum. Andrew completed a research camp at Brown University this past summer and volunteered at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  He enjoys running and playing basketball fir over 5 years on competitive AAU teams.  Most recently he has started his own organization to inspire young children as they engage in athletics. His goal is to enrich the lives of student athletes through education, competition and encouraging them to continue to pursue opportunities beyond athletics.

 

 

Natalie Lopez

Natalie is a senior at Memorial High School. She is the assistant stage manager of Memorial’s Theatre productions and is also the president of her school’s American Sign Language Club, where she works on connecting hearing and deaf cultures. In the future, she aspires to become a nutritionist or dietician. Outside of school, she enjoys experimenting with cooking, baking, and doing yoga.

Ava is a junior at Travis High School. She is proudly a member of Academic Decathlon and HOSA. Ava likes watching and playing AFL as well as cooking and playing guitar in her free time. Her favorite subject is science, and she aspires to be a trauma surgeon.

Lily is a senior at Memorial High School. She is involved in HOSA, Memorial Coastal Crew, and the Key Club. Lily actively volunteers with Generation Serve Houston, and through Generation Serve, she enjoys volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, and Project Cure. Lily enjoys running, baking, and spending time with family.

Sophia is a sophomore at St John’s School. She participates in volleyball, 3D art, and multiple school clubs. She is the president of her NCL (National Charity League) Class of 2026. Her favorite hobbies are making new art pieces and spending time with her friends.

Dylan is a junior at St. John’s School. She runs the 100 and 200 meter in Track and Field and plays soccer as a forward. Dylan is a member of the Women of Science Club and Science Olympiad. She is an avid reader and loves spending time with her family playing board games.

 

 

Matthew Chuan

Matthew is a freshman at Memorial High School. He is part of National Honor Society and a member of the Lyrica Orchestra. He is active in Boy Scout troop 642, and he is an assistant senior patrol leader, a life scout, and one of the troops representatives to the Order of the Arrow. To stay active, he attends Boy Scout campouts and plays soccer. Outside of school, Matthew is part of Kumon, Boy Scouts, and SBMSA soccer. In his free time, Matthew enjoys reading and playing chess.

Ariyana is a freshman at Travis High School . She is a member of the GSA academy program, GIS committee ,SASA program , and a Debate club member. In addition, her extra-curricular activities include piano, dance – Bollywood, and she has been a member of Girl Scouts for the past 9 years. In the future, she would like to continue her community volunteer efforts and aspires to become a Medical Doctor, either as a Neurologist or Cardiologist.

 

Benjamin Farahbod

Benjamin is a junior at The Kinkaid School. He is passionate about fitness and has been a club swimmer since he was eight years old. His varsity 200 Free relay set a new school record at the Southwest Preparatory Championship meet and earned All-SPC honors for the season. Benjamin is a certified lifeguard, volunteers at Houston Methodist Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital where he directly works with patients and staff learning new skills. He is a member of his schools Falcon Sound Club that plays music for residents in local retirement homes. He is also a member of the UNICEF Club, that held a bake sale and donated profits to help the children in Ukraine. Benjamin enjoys playing the cello and piano in my orchestra class. I especially love volunteering for the Special Olympics Bocce Ball Tournament and Theater Under the Stars where he helped individuals with disabilities immerse in all aspects of theater. Benjamin loves taking his six-year-old dog, Sparky, on walks.

 

 

Jack Brown

Jack is a freshman at Memorial High School. He believes in service and loves helping others. Jack enjoys volunteering at his church in a variety of outreach ministries. He serves on the Texas Children’s Food Allergy Teen Board. Jack was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease at the age of four. He believes the hardships he faces with his health daily make him more empathetic and compassionate towards others with hardships. Jack hopes to become a doctor to serve others and help them live a better and longer life. In his free time Jack enjoys running, playing board games and reading.

 

 

Ayla Patel

Ayla is a sophomore at The Kinkaid School. She enjoys playing violin and has been learning since the age of 6. Among numerous competitions and recitals, Ayla plays for the Virtuosi of Houston, a chamber orchestra, as well as her school orchestra. Ayla is passionate about connecting with her community through numerous community service efforts, such as partaking in the Student Hero leadership program at the Houston Food Bank, where she works among staff while helping the Houston population. Additionally, Ayla is a member of her school’s Busking Club, which throws semi-annual concerts and events to raise money for charities around the world. Most recently, Ayla co-founded the Kinkaid Welcomes Refugees Club at her school and is excited to start a year full of service-based events. Outside of school and extracurriculars, Ayla enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and dog.

Natalie is a Junior at Westchester Academy for International Studies. She is a member of several clubs at her school including Debate Team, Odyssey of the Mind, English, Science and Hispanic Honor Society. She holds offices in Med club, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Interact club. Natalie is also president of Fuel up to Play 60. Her goal is to bring the community together and increase involvement. Natalie believes that everyone should learn about the importance of mental and physical health to have overall good health. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing games, and being outside. Natalie aspires to be a pediatric oncologist.
